PRODUCT DESCRIPTION This is a two day course for manager grade screeners. The objective is to become familiar with the technical aspects of the standards including additional practical sessions as required. The course is aimed to train-the-trainers so that they can effectively supervise the long term use of the XTE system and provide technical and training backup to X-Ray Screeners.

Day 1 Orientation Introduction (1/2 day)

  1. OHS and Radiation Safety Matters
  2. Introduction to the XTE™
    • transferring the XTE standards around the examination facility
      • placing and removing the XTE test piece on the conveyor belt
      • safe storage of the XTE
    • making adjustments to the XTE
      • adjusting the plate angles
      • adjusting the elements of the penetration step wedge
  3. Radiation safety (X-ray Safety.ppt)
    • radiation protection limits
    • safety instructions for usage (depends on the manufacturer’s instructions for the X-ray system and any local rules)

Day two (2) will include both theoretical and practical sessions

  1. The design of the XTE standards
    • manufacturers’ specifications for X-ray examination system
    • definitions (wire resolution in air, Image Quality Index, Contrast sensitivity, spatial resolution, materials discrimination, penetration)
    • elements on the test piece; how these  relate to the definitions and to the manufacturers’ specifications
    • using the score sheets (recording the results on the X-ray facility’s computers depends of local IT procedures)
  2. Making an examination
    • position the XTE™ on the conveyor belt
      • for horizontal view
      • for vertical view
      • check for clearance at entry points to the X-ray enclosure
      • check that start/stop sensors are operational
      • check that emergence safety stops are functional
    • Set up to test the horizontal view
    • For the horizontal view
      • take an initial scan and view the image (this will be displayed using what the manufacturer believes to be the best default setting)
      • store this image
      • use the score sheet to score the results
      • use the examination tools provided by the manufacturer to generate the best image of  each of the XTE
      • store all final images
      • enter the score on the test sheet
    • For the vertical view:
      • take an initial scan and view the image (this will be displayed using what the manufacturer believes to be the best default setting)
      • Store this image
      • use the score sheet to score the results
      • use the examination tools provided by the manufacturer to generate the best image of  each of the Test Objects on AUS1 and AUS2 (AUS1 has 5  test objects; AUS2 has 4 test objects)
      • store all final images
      • enter the score on the test sheet
    • Repeat these examination to establish that consistency exists in the data.
  3. Completing the examination
    • return the XTE test piece to their travelling configuration and remove them from the conveyor belt
    • store the XTE test piece
    • archive all the images collected together with their score sheets.
